October Web Page Hits

During October, the ACC Library's Web page was visited more than 10,000 times (10,006 times as of October 30). The most popular page in October was Finding Articles, with 4027 hits. Other often-visited pages: Finding Books (681 hits), Writing and Citing Help (560 hits) and About the ACC Libary (362 hits).

October is National Information Literacy Awareness Month

On October 1, 2009, President Barack Obama issued a proclamation declaring October 2009 as National Information Literacy Awareness Month.

Are you "Information Literate"? Can you find the info you need to "Ace" your classes? The "AceCC" Library can help boost your learning and research skills! Start with our tutorials and research guides found on the library homepage. Questions? Ask your friendly reference librarian!

Bogus E-Mail

If you get an email with "Final Notification!!!" in the subject line, and a message claiming to be carrying out maintenance on your ACC account, DELETE IT - Don't Respond!!

Student Account Full

If you cannot print on a library printer and have exhausted other possibilities, please consider that your account might have reached its maximum capacity. You will have to remove/transfer files to free up space on your account.

Save to S-Drive!

No Thumb Drive? Save to your S-Drive! All students have personal space on the ACC Student Server. So when you're using a Library or Computer Lab PC, save your work to your "S" Drive, and not to "My Documents" or "Desktop".

That way, you can access your files from any campus PC. To access from home, go to ftp://sunyacc.edu and enter your username and password. You can copy your files onto your home desktop, make changes, then copy back to the S-drive. Need help? Just stop by the Ref Desk!

Free trial access to GREENR through 2009

ACC now has free trial access to Gale/Cengage’s GREENR resource (Global Reference on the Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources. In-library use only.

Between Classes

If you have time between classes, stop by the library to catch up on news: you can relax with a daily newspaper or magazines like Newsweek, Motor Trend, Consumer Reports or Glamour!

Tune in to WGFR for News

Listen to online newscasts weekdays at 4, 5, and 6 p.m. on ACC's student-run radio station WGFR 92.7 FM, or online at www.wgfr.org. Stay tuned for details of WGFR's forthcoming bi-weekly science feature produced by ACC adjunct marine biology instructor Dr. Erika Shielke!

President Obama will visit Hudson Valley Community College on Monday 9/21 to talk about the importance of community colleges. Log onto a Library PC to watch a live web stream at www.hvcc.edu/obamavisit.

Trouble at home with remote access?

If you have difficulties accessing the library databases at home or need help using our catalog don't waste precious time .......phone 743-2200 ext 2462. A night reference librarian will be glad to walk you through the process.

Copy Tip

If you wish to make a copy with paper larger than 8 1/2" x 11" paper, make sure that you have only one dime in the coin slot. If you have more than a dime in the coin slot, you will be charged twenty cents for a copy on the larger paper.

Obtaining Your Login and Password

To obtain your login and password

You need your 500 number. This number is on your bill from ACC or your course schedule.

Then you need to go to the Reference Desk computer that faces the Copy Room. Read the directions that are taped on the desk to the left of the computer.

If you are unsure about what to do, simply ask the Reference Librarian to assist you.
